2016 Charity Beneficiary

For its entire 28 year history, the Lawrence St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee has dedicated itself to benefiting local children's charities in Lawrence and Douglas County. The Committee has raised over $850,000 for a wide variety of institutions in the area, and it does so as a completely volunteer-driven organization.

For 2016, the Committee is pleased to announce this year's charitable beneficiary:

The Shelter, Inc.
The mission of The Shelter, Inc. is to improve the lives of children and families, with a focus on children at risk in Douglas County and northeast Kansas.

Basic services:
The Residential Program provides emergency residential care and YRCII residential care for children ages 10 years through 18 years old.
Juvenile Intake provides on-call assistance to law enforcement, crisis intervention for families, and referral services for further assistance.
Family Services provides family foster care services, including foster parent training and licensing preparation, placement coordination, and on-going support.
The Prevention & Diversion Program includes High School Truancy Prevention and Diversion, Specialized Case Management for at-risk children, and Pre-filing Diversion and/or Conditions of Release case management for first-time juvenile offenders.
